Power, Authority, and Governance- People create and change systems of power and authority for many reasons.

Enduring Understandings

  • Student will understand that people create and change systems of power and authority (exist) to resolve conflict between individuals and groups and bring order and stability to society.
  • Student will understand that people use a variety of ways to allocate and limit power and authority.
  • Student will understand that the values and beliefs of people are reflected in their rules and institutions.

 

Essential Questions

  • Where does power come from?
  • How would society look if there were no government?
  • What are peoples’ roles and responsibilities in a society?
